Who we're looking for:

We are looking for a fast and efficient Quality Assurance professional with excellent attention to detail to review entire websites prior to launch.

What you would be working on:

socialmedian is a news service that connects people with personalized news and information. socialmedian enables you to easily keep up-to-date on the news that matters to you and to people who share

your interests. It is in a closed invite-only alpha phase with 3000 users. You can find coverage on socialmedian at ReadWriteWeb, Mashable, LouisGray, Silicon Alley Insider, and VentureBeat.

For socialmedian, we follow extreme agile development methods, which mean that the features that you would be working on would be released in weeks rather than in months. You'll get a real chance to work on something that would be used by hundreds of thousands of users.

You should have:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Experience with Linux, Apache, MySQL
  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails frameworks, and scripting language(s) such as PHP, Perl, JavaScript.
  • One or more OOP languages (Java, C++, C#, VB.net, VB).
  • Excellent written and communication skills.

What you would be doing:

  • Develop detailed test strategy and test plans, with heavy focus on automation, for websites and web based applications.
  • Develop from ground-up, the test automation framework and infrastructure.
  • Test products through all phases of development life cycle (Functional testing, regression/integration testing, performance testing) using a combination of black-box and white-box testing methods.
  • Test all components and subsystems including server-side components, database components, UI components using a combination of API based testing and UI testing.
  • Apply patches from the source-control system to test specific bug fixes.
  • Follow up with engineers to get closure on bugs

In more simple terms, we are looking for someone who looks forward to put in a hands-on contribution in terms of working with our team and at the same time, has the potential to lead them in the challenge of satisfying all aspects of the user interaction with the product: how it is perceived, learned, and used.
